This photo shows the launch ceremony of the "China-Aided Lao Rural E-Commerce Platform" (Lao Product), held on May 13, 2024, in Vientiane, Laos.

This is one of "eight major projects" that the Chinese government is providing to Laos as part of implementing the China-Laos Community with a Shared Future action plan. Attendees included China's Chargé d'Affaires to Laos, Wang Chang, along with Laos's Minister of Industry and Commerce Malaithong, Deputy Minister Manothong, the Standing Deputy Chairman of the Laos-China Cooperation Committee, and around 80 representatives from government agencies and businesses of both countries.
Project background: The technical assistance agreement was formally signed in April 2022. This launch marks an important milestone as the project moves into its operation and maintenance phase.
Platform components: The platform includes a domestic B2B e-commerce platform for Lao agricultural products, a China-Laos cross-border e-commerce platform, plus six supporting systems — a supply chain aggregation system, market price system, product traceability system, and e-commerce credit system, among others.
Significance: The project aims to apply China's e-commerce experience to help more Lao products reach the Chinese market, strengthen trade connectivity and digital links between the two countries, and support economic and social development in Laos's rural areas. Minister Malaithong said in his remarks that China's assistance would help Laos keep pace with the digital era and create more jobs for the Lao people.
